Stories & Tips

The region and its stories

Three place names.
A little orientation.

A practical guide to the first few days, without turning every shopping trip into a day’s outing.

These places are not all next door to one another. Plan your actual route from the house, not straight lines on the map.

When you are new to an area, the place names can sound like a collection you are expected to remember eventually. After a few days, they acquire quite practical meanings: shopping here, food there, water over there.

Three names help at the start. They do not cover everything, but they make those first decisions easier. That is the point: not to drive as much as possible, but to know why you are heading out at all.

Everyday needs nearby

Lönsboda.
For the little things.

Lönsboda is our first reference point for errands in town. ICA Nära at Bredgatan 1 is a specific shopping address; Café Kronan and Helgas feature in our restaurant article. Whether a stop works for coffee or lunch depends on the particular opening day.

Hjärtasjön can also fit into a trip in this direction. We would still avoid loading every journey with three more errands. Sometimes it is rather nice to go out simply because you fancy a swim.

A little further afield

Osby.
A little outing of its own.

Osby need not remain just a name on a signpost. Visit Osby brings together suggestions for walks and outings in the municipality; the Osbysjön circuit is also one of the options in our cycling article.

For a planned dinner, it is worth checking the current offering at Stora Hotellet. This is a researched suggestion, not a promise of a table at any time. If you would like to combine the trip with a meal, arrange the booking first and the walk afterwards.

Museum or water

Älmhult.
Not just IKEA.

Many people associate Älmhult with IKEA. The museum in the first store tells the story behind it and is an idea for a day when you do not want to spend every hour outdoors. Check current exhibitions and visiting hours with the museum before travelling.

On a warm day, the swimming spots on Möckeln are an alternative. Möckelns badplats and Bökhult are described in the council information. They can be combined with Älmhult, but need not be squeezed into the same day.

Our verdict

A little orientation is enough. You can get to know the rest of the countryside gradually.
