A week without a timetable
Nothing to tick off.
Simply be here.
Two days beside the lake that do not need an excursion programme to qualify as a holiday.
You are, of course, still allowed to go out. This is one possibility, not a new holiday rule.
With only a weekend to spare, it is tempting to pack in as much as possible. Arrive on Friday, deal with the surrounding area on Saturday, and squeeze in one more sight on Sunday. We have a slightly smaller counter-proposal.
Stay for a moment first. Not out of laziness, but to notice where you have arrived. A house beside a lake need not earn its place in your plans by being close to the next attraction.
Friday
The journey here
can be quite enough.
We would keep the first evening simple. Do the essential shopping beforehand, eat something uncomplicated and resist slipping in one last activity. After a drive, an evening without another decision is sometimes exactly right.
If there is still light, go down to the water. If not, the lake will still be there in the morning. One of its more agreeable qualities.
Saturday
Breakfast first.
Then see.
Perhaps a walk in the woods. Perhaps a morning with a book and coffee. In suitable conditions, the rowing boat might be part of the day too. Water temperature, weather and your own experience matter more than the urge to have done something at all costs.
If you do fancy heading out at lunchtime, Lönsboda is an obvious direction. Check opening days for cafés and lunch spots beforehand. A weekend without a plan is pleasant; unplanned hunger outside a locked door is rather less so.
Sunday
Do not leave in your head
before the morning is over.
The last day of a weekend can quickly become nothing but preparation for the journey home. We would at least exempt breakfast. Sit a little longer, look outside once more, then pack without rushing — within the agreed departure time, of course.
It is hard to measure the value of such a weekend by counting places visited. Perhaps a better measure is whether, by the end, you know what the lake looks like in the morning. Not a bad result for two days.
Our verdict
There are weekends when you have seen very little, yet been quite a long way away.
