Eating around Rågeboda
Eat well.
Call off the search.
Coffee in Lönsboda, lunch in Broby and an evening in Osby. A small selection, not an endless best-of list.
Small towns do not always keep generous opening hours. Have a quick look or call before setting off, especially in the evening and at weekends.
A good kitchen in a holiday home is a fine thing. We also rather like not having to use it every day. Around here, though, it is best not to set off hungry and assume that somewhere is bound to be open.
Lönsboda has good places for coffee and lunch. For a planned dinner, we look a little further afield. Broby Gästis and the restaurant at Stora Hotellet in Osby are among our personal recommendations. Four possibilities to help plan a day on holiday.
Lönsboda · coffee and lunch
Café Kronan.
A pause in town.
Look for fika in Lönsboda and you will soon find Café Kronan. At Glimåkravägen 7, it combines a café and a restaurant. Handy when one of you wants coffee and the other has already decided that coffee is not lunch.
Alongside café fare, the published menu includes hot dishes, with fish and vegetarian options. For lunch, it is worth checking the current daily menu. Your coffee break may simply turn into something a little larger.
An important point for planning: the café’s current autumn notice lists weekday opening and closed weekends. Before making a special trip, we therefore check again. In small towns, that is often the most useful minute of preparation.
Our tip
An obvious place for fika in town. Do not simply assume it will be open on a Saturday.
Lönsboda · an easy lunch
Helgas.
Without the fuss.
Helgas Matservering is also in Lönsboda, at Glimåkravägen 4. If you are looking for something down-to-earth at lunchtime, it is an address worth knowing. The local business directory lists dagens rätt — a changing dish of the day — as well as catering and a function room.
We think of Helgas primarily as a lunch spot. Straightforward Swedish home cooking is a recurring theme in the publicly available guest comments. We would not turn that into a ranking: small numbers of reviews and different platforms can quickly give a distorted picture.
The most reliable way to check the daily offering and actual opening hours is to ask directly. The official local directory gives the telephone number 0479-21212. It takes a minute and avoids the less-than-romantic business of negotiating dinner outside a locked door.
Broby · a personal recommendation
Broby Gästis.
A good reason to head out.
The guesthouse in Broby is one of our personal recommendations. Broby Gästis is at Torget 1. The square outside the building already makes lunch feel like a little outing. Lunch is the more accessible option price-wise. For dinner, allow a higher budget: it is not an inexpensive substitute for the lunchtime menu.
For planning, the distinction between lunch and dinner is crucial. The house normally advertises lunch from Monday to Friday, currently between 11.30am and 2pm. Dinner is offered to larger groups on request. For two people, we would certainly not assume a regular evening restaurant service without asking first.
The weekly menu is the place to look for fish, meat or a vegetarian alternative. If you are travelling for a particular dish, ask ahead. A recommendation should lead to a good meal, not a very thorough walk around the building.

Osby · a personal recommendation
An evening
at Stora Hotellet.
We know E&E, the restaurant at Stora Hotellet in Osby, from personal experience and are happy to recommend it. You can eat very well here in polished, slightly more upmarket surroundings.
The hotel advertises an à la carte service from Monday to Saturday, from 5pm. The menu also includes fish and vegetarian choices; the particular dishes may change. The address is Västra Järnvägsgatan 17 in Osby. Especially at weekends, we would book or confirm availability directly.
It is not inexpensive, and that is worth knowing beforehand. We would choose it for a considered dinner for two rather than a quick, budget-friendly bite. In our experience, the quality is there to match.
And the fish?
On the menu.
Not guaranteed.
If you fancy fish, it is worth looking at the menus at Café Kronan and E&E. With changing lunch menus, much depends on the day. We would not therefore commit to a particular dish before the current weekly menu appears.
For a longer trip to the sea, our Åhus article also lists our favourite stops there. That is no longer a quick detour for lunch, however, but a day of its own, with harbour and beach.
Last checked: October 2026. Opening days and menus may change. We deliberately revisit older recommendations: Fabrik in Osby, for instance, announced its closure in August 2026 on its own website and is therefore not included in our selection.
Our verdict
Four useful addresses are better than twenty unchecked recommendations. And before setting off, a quick look at the opening hours.
