A day by the sea
in Åhus.

Vodka, water and an unhurried day out between the historic harbour and the Baltic beach.

From Rågeboda

A little over an hour

Reading time

7 minutes

Our own route for a day without a packed sightseeing schedule.

At first glance, the two sides of Åhus could hardly seem more different: one is home to one of the world’s best-known vodka brands; the other has the Baltic Sea washing onto a long sandy beach. Between them are a little harbour, historic lanes and a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere.

Åhus is one of our favourite day trips from Rågeboda. After a little over an hour’s drive, you swap woodland and lakes for a harbour, the sea and a small Skåne town. When guests ask how we would spend a day in Åhus, this is roughly what we suggest.

Harbour and old town

Just start walking.

We usually park near the harbour and set off on foot. The lovely thing about Åhus is that almost everything is within walking distance. From the water, it is just a few minutes to the market square, the church and the little streets of the historic centre.

Our tip

Leave the plan in the car. Åhus is one of those places best discovered by letting yourself wander a little.

For lunch, we would stop at Seglarkrogen. Sitting right by the water, watching the boats and taking our time is part of what this place is about for us.

Afterwards, there is really only one logical decision: an ice cream. A visit to Torgkiosken is always part of our day in Åhus.

At home with Absolut

A global name from Åhus.

Almost everyone knows the name Absolut Vodka. Many of our guests are surprised to learn that it is still produced in Åhus.

At Absolut Home, you can discover how a distillery in Skåne became one of the world’s best-known spirits brands. The tours also cover local farming, Swedish design and the history of a brand closely tied to this town.

A 20-second language lesson

How do you pronounce Åhus?

The Swedish Å sounds roughly like a long ‘o’, the H is barely heard, and the U is rather like the German ‘ü’: approximately ‘O-hüs’.

Try ‘A-house’ and you are quite likely to be mistaken for a German holidaymaker.

Täppetstranden

An afternoon by the sea.

After a few days among woods and lakes, the open Baltic feels different every time. The wide sandy beach invites a swim, but a walk beside the water is just as lovely, with the wind coming in from Hanö Bay.

Täppetstranden in Åhus

Plenty of beach, plenty of sky — and, outside the high season, often plenty of peace and quiet.

We especially like this side of Åhus outside the high season. Then all you need is a decent pair of shoes, perhaps a jacket and a little time by the sea.

Simply stay a little longer.

For us, Åhus Tonics Cocktail Lounge is a lovely place to round off the day. A drink, a view towards the harbour and no need to hurry: a holiday really need not be more complicated than that.

After a cocktail, someone else should of course do the driving back to Rågeboda.

Our verdict

A little harbour life, a good lunch, an ice cream in hand and the Baltic in the afternoon.

And when you drive back to Rågeboda in the evening, the quiet by the lake often feels just a little deeper.
